Disabled Veterans National Foundation Aids Veterans Stand Down In Arkansas

By Aundrea Taliferro

WASHINGTON, Nov 02, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Disabled Veterans National Foundation Delivers More than $150,000 Worth of Supplies to Support Veterans at Stand Down in Arkansas. Disabled Veterans National Foundation delivered $154,219 worth of goods to help veterans who recently gathered for the 'Operation Hope' Stand Down in Northwest Arkansas. The Disabled Veterans National Foundation shipments included water, blankets, hygiene products, hand sanitizer, clothing and hats.

Stand Down events typically last from one to three days. They are a popular way for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide services and support to homeless veterans around the country. DVNF has supported several recent Stand Downs thanks to their supporters. The first Stand Down was organized in 1988 by a group of Vietnam veterans in San Diego.

"We view these Stand Downs as an excellent and effective way to reach homeless veterans and let them know people care and are there to help," said Precilla Wilkewitz, President of DVNF. "One of our main missions upon our founding was to help homeless veterans-which is such a growing problem in our country. The number of women veterans who find themselves homeless is on the rise and we are determined to do what we can to help. They deserve our help after all they have given to our nation."
