The Political Career And Achievements Of Ray Martin

By Andrea Rivas

Ray Martin is a well known former member of the Legislative Assembly in Alberta. Born in the year 1941 on August 8, he is also best known for his political roles and contributions and being a former leader of the NDP party of Alberta.

He was born and was reared in his hometown in Delia, Alberta. While he was attending his college years in the University of Edmonton, he was pursuing a career in education. While in college, he was a known member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

After successfully graduating from his education degree, he decided to go for a Master's education. To get this carried out, he got admitted at the University of Calgary. He worked as a teacher before his path started to lead towards politics.

ray martin was successfully installed as the new leader of the NDP in 1984 when he the former leader Grant Noley was involved in a fatal plane crash. During his leadership, he was able to help lead the party to victory during the polls in 1986.

he was able to lead his party to victory again in the year 1989, but this victory did not continue on the 1993 polls because the party suffered from massive defeat. Later in the year 1994, he decided to leave the party and give up the party leadership.

Due to his political losses, he has decided to shift his attention away from the political spotlight. Instead, he has spent the years in 2001 to 2004 as a trustee of the Edmonton Public School Board. Aside from working as a consultant and a financial planner, he worked then as a political columnist as well.

After being absent in the political arena for nearly eleven years Ray Martin was back on the political scene again after successfully winning a seat in the assembly again in 2004. He got defeated again, however, in 2008, but has decided to pursue an electoral seat again for the polls in 2011.
