Looking For A Statue Restoration Service

By Cherry Mercer

You can find statuary in many places, including public parks, cemeteries, private gardens, churches, and memorial sites. Outdoor statues all have one thing in common. That is, they can all suffer the effects of weather and pollution. Indoor ones aren't affected as much by weather or pollution, but they can be subject to damage by either vandals or well-meaning tourists. In these cases, it would be good to know a good statue restoration service.

Statuary is created in all styles and sizes, and is made of numerous different materials. Materials can include chalk, marble, granite, or bronze. Smaller works might be made from cast metals, precious metals, kiln-fired clay, or wood. You might desire to carve something out of a bar of soap, but you probably don't want to display it outside. More modern sculptors might opt for either concrete or some sort of resin. And then, there the unique case of the Statue of Liberty in the United States, which was constructed by installing copper sheathing on to an iron skeleton.

Some statuary materials are durable, while others are easily damaged. Different materials are subject to different types of damage. For example, it's quite unwise to install a work of marble or bronze close by a fountain or a pool. The chlorine will corrode these materials.

It's also recommended to not place your statuary nearby any dense trees, bushes, or overgrown ground cover. This could allow biological growth to begin growing on the sculpture's surface. If you have statuary located in this type of an area, then you'll definitely want to keep the vegetation well trimmed.

Damage can occur very slowly and gradually, and it's not always easily spotted. Fungus spores may combine with dust and land on a sculpture's surface. The fungus could then take root and grow, especially if it is on metal, clay, or some kind of porous stone. If you don't spot this rather problem soon enough, the damage just might become quite impossible to fix.

There are several things that you'll want to keep in mind when you investigate a restoration job. First, you'll want to know approximately how much your item is worth, so that you'll have a good idea of what you want to spend. If you have a rather new, mass-produced item, it may be more economical just to replace it, rather than to have it repaired. Of course, some works would be considered priceless. For them, the primary consideration might only concern how much money you can raise for the project. You'll also need to know what material your item is made of, so that you can search out services who can deal with that type of material.

Whatever the case, you need to obtain an estimate of the job's cost. Small items could be shipped to the service vendor, while large pieces would require a visit from a shop representative. Some places might want for you to send them photos of the item in question. Fees will vary based on the damage to be repaired, in addition to the materials and time required to perform the repairs.

Restoring unique or valuable statues can be quite fulfilling. It could even happen that you'd be helping to preserve a part of history. Finding shops that do statue restoration is as easy as doing a Google search.

There's a new motion afoot, it's called 'Margaret Thatcher Dead'. Whether it's simply social or political, stays to be seen. Ms Blythe, of South London, has actually been rallying fellow protesters to celebrate her brand-new movement, Margaret Thatcher Dead.

She has set up a Facebook group, calling it 'The Witch is Dead', a subsidiary group of the movement called "Margaret Thatcher Dead". This group already has over 5,000 members and calls for "demonstrations of disapproval" across the country. I am not sure what she means. Is she asking us to disapprove of Margaret Thatcher's slipping out of her mortal coil, all too easily, and without a hint of hard labour?

Ms Blythe is certainly enthusiastic. She has informed her followers on Facebook of forthcoming riots in Bristol and Glasgow. The University of East London graduate is specifically interested in disagreement resolution via drama. Drama is an old reliable for conflict resolution.

This lady held a"flash party" to mark Lady Thatcher's passing, with the message: "Anyone else like to join us?". Really jolly indeed.

This woman held a"flash celebration" to note Lady Thatcher's passing, along with the message: "Anyone else like to join us?". Really jolly undoubtedly.

But the girl is deluded. Her Facebook web page checks out: "Come and celebrate our liberty and liberty from tyranny! On the day Maggie stands down, once and for all!"

She states her dad was a leftie and her mom was a Thatcherite. She claimed she is merely commemorating the demise of Thatcher's policies, instead of the mortal being herself.

So, a serene exhibition of disapproval and helping the Government to understand we're not silly and we have not been persuaded by more thriving times since Thatcher's reign.

It's all good, because this is a group catharsis', for survivors of the Thatcher years those suffering from post-thatcher traumatic stress disorder, a recognised complaint.

And in case you were thinking of having a jolly in town on Saturday, be warned. 25 locations across the country, are being organised by Class War, with the help of other organizations such as the All London Anarchist Revolutionary Mob, which is of course committed to radical action to undermine the state.

And if you were thinking about having a jolly in the city on the Saturday, be warned. 25 locations across the nation, are being organised by Class War, with the assistance of various other organizations such as the All London Anarchist Revolutionary Mob, which is obviously committed to rabid action to weaken the state.

Ian Bone, of Class War, pointed out that an effigy of Our Lady Thatcher will sit on the 4th plinth in London's Trafalgar Square, which has been recommended as a site for a feasible statuary of the previous prime minister. Bone spoke of the sizable papier-mache statue of Thatcher being done that will be fallen. It will resemble the dimension of the Saddam Hussein one.

He said they wish to celebrate the end of Thatcher. Scotland Yard has launched a significant procedure to respond to threats. Naturally, all policeman leave has actually been revoked, something which I think Lady Thatcher would accept.

I wasn't planning to attend, but with all of this drama going on, I may pop Sheeba in her blue cat box and saunter over to Trafalgar Square to witness proceedings.

Of course, the Iron Lady Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, is not dead yet, not while she's getting all of this publicity. She relished publicity, old Thatch, and the last time I looked, the Tories were still half-running the country. Ah well.

Whatever you may consider Margaret Thatcher's policies, and some of those were harsh without a doubt, she was a heck of a lady. Whether she boded well or ill for the nation, time will tell.

Definitely, she obtained a new perspective in Britain, and individuals began thinking of their true worth. Which by itself, is a valid point.

She is not easily forgotten. Glenda Jackson's brutal dissection of Thatcher in Parliament recently, got everyone upset.

Perhaps Glenda's ire stems from the fact that long after Glenda is forgotten, Thatcher will still be legend.

So the debate rages on.

bladdy blah.

Tips For Successful Union Avoidance

By Alyssa Riggs

Union avoidance is a very important topic especially with the increase in the need to improve workplace relations. Due to this, there are a number of facts that you need to know so as to reduce the chances of unionization in your company. They are simple tips and guidelines that offer guidance on the easiest ways to deal with workers in an organization.

You need to start by ensuring that the working environment is friendly. It is all about appreciating the value of each and every employee towards the organization. In the real sense, workers play a very huge role in ensuring that the firm achieves its short as well as long term objectives.

A point to note is that most employees will unionize when they are dissatisfied about how they are treated. This is why you need to create proper channels of communication so that workers can be open to discuss their issues. Having suggestion boxes and meetings where workers issues can be discussed is very important. An open door policy is also another way to do it.

Once you have put in place policies that favor a good worker relationship climate, it is up to you to make it known to them. You can send personal letters to all employees or have it on the company notice boards. The next step is to deliver whatever you have promised.

The compensation as well as benefits that you give your employees should also be reviewed from time to time. Essentially, you need to ensure that your pay and wages are within industry ranges. Too little pay is the perfect recipe for disaster. On the same note, there should also be a policy to review personnel pay on the basis of performance as well as experience.

Then there is the issue of benefits. It has been proven that the kind of benefits you give your employees could greatly impact their level of satisfaction with their employment contracts. You should also clearly outline the benefits that each worker receives when they are working for you.

Depending on the industry that you are in, it is also very important to carry out some research so as to establish the factors that motivate employees. You will be surprised that there are additional factors and not just pay that motivates workers. Giving a worker additional responsibility has also been proven to increase worker motivation.

This is because the worker is bound to feel much more appreciated for the work they have done. This has the effect of improving their satisfaction levels. You will also realize that there will be an increased tendency to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.

When dealing directly with workers issues, it is very important that those in supervisory positions exercise professional competence and due care. This is because they have to handle issues in the proper way. This is how to avoid any problems that may arise.

So as to be successful at union avoidance, you have to be very keen on each and every issue that affects your employees. You also have to be fair in all your dealings especially when it comes to disciplinary action. Simply put, you have to be dedicated to achieve the such an objective.

Get To How The Significance Of Labor Relations Training

By Grace Rivera

An organization is a system. It is made of many people geared towards achievement o a common goal. The people cannot function without each other. They require relying on one another to ensure achievement of the set goal. If some of them happen to divert their attention from the goal for various reasons, the whole organization will not reach its goal. Mostly, employees may divert from these goals, if they feel that their welfare is no looked at. That is, they may have many complains, but due to lack of knowledge on how to relate well with their seniors, they may not air them in the right way. One way of eradicating this behavior in the organization is by offering labor relations training.

Some organizations may count the cost of training their employees. However, this should not be the case. The benefit of this training supersedes the cost. Enlightened employees will help the organization increase its productivity. It also enhances proper flow of organizations activities. As a result, the organization records increased productivity.

Good relationship between employees and employers help reduce industrial disputes. This is because employees are free to air their grievances to the employers without fear. They do not have to go to the street to ensure that their employers hear them. This helps reduce strikes, go slows and lock out. These industrial unrests create a bad reputation of the organization.

Employees love feeling appreciated by the employers. This boosts their morale to work. They also work with an understanding that their interest is similar to that of their employers. They feel that they are a part and puzzle of the organizations goals. They have a role to play as far as the achievement of the goals is concerned. This makes them apply efforts in all that they do. This automatically translates to high productivity of the organization.

People love feeling appreciated by the employers. Sometimes, employees may feel like the employers do not care about their welfare. This mostly occurs if the employees have unsolved grievances, but the employers seem not to recognize them. However, with good communication between the two parties, they can strike an agreement. Mostly, things get out of hand due to misunderstanding between parties.

High productivity is not only beneficial to the production firm, but to the country at lager. Production is one of the ways of enhancing economic growth. With good relationships in the organization, productivity is highly boosted. The country will indirectly benefit trough taxes and increased employment opportunity.

Organizations struggle attracting qualified employees, due to the tense relationship that exist between the employees and the employers. Mostly, people look at the reputation of an organization before applying for a job. If the organization had much unrest, job aspirant may be reluctant to apply for a vacancy in that organization. Again, a poor relationship is a major cause of employees turn over.

It is the responsibility of every organization to maintain good relationships in the organization. This can be achieved by offering employees labor relations training. The training enlightens employees on importance of good interactions.

Current US Foreign Policy In The Middle East

By Alyssa Riggs

Social science places significant emphasis on the study of relations between humans. This includes current US foreign policy in the Middle East which deals with intergovernmental relations. Since governments are operated by humans, relations are between humans in the United States and those in Middle East regional countries.

All national government departments play a part in how the United States operates overseas. These include the department of defense, the state department and the education department. For example the education department would be involved in student part exchange programs and the ministry of defense would be involved in policies relating to military assistance.

All government departments have specialist, analysts and other personnel playing a part in the development, and implementation of policies which impact relations outside the country. There is also input from government entities outside the United States. For example, United States embassies in various countries may have significant input. This is so because they are in a position to provide valuable intelligence.

International relations are also influenced by the political party currently in power. Since different political parties have varying views on the world and the US role in it, it goes without saying that foreign relations are affected by the party in power. Some administration for instance may favor a carrot and stick approach. Others may prefer prefer the hammer approach.

Although there would normally be a core set of principles in any overseas policy makeup, fluid conditions require a certain amount of flexibility. For example to lower tension between two countries, a government may decide to water down a particularly stringent aspect to generate an atmosphere of compromise. In addition, a country that is friendly may have elections which result in a change to an unfriendly one. In this case relations between the two countries may change leading to changes in government to government relations.

For those nationals, business entities and organizations doing business overseas, foreign relations have a huge impact on their behavior. For example, it is unlawful to engage in the practice of paying money to any official overseas with the view of gaining business advantages over competitors. There are severe penalties for individuals and businesses that decide to engage in these sorts of illegal practices.

Allies of the United States are mostly democratic countries. Democracy is a central theme stressed by US state department officials. However, this does not mean the US does not have cordial relations with non democratic countries. It just means that democratically lead countries are viewed in a more favorable light.

Current US foreign policy in the Middle East refers to relations between the United States government and its relations with countries in the Middle Eastern region. Many government departments and the various analyst, specialist and embassy staff help to influence and implement international relations policies. The political persuasion of the current administration is influential in formulating foreign relations strategy. United States nationals, organizations and other entities doing business abroad are bound by rules and laws set down by foreign relations policies. Democratic countries have an easier time dealing with foreign relations.

Margaret Thatcher Dead - New Movement

By Olive Onion

Margaret Thatcher Dead?

There's a brand-new motion afoot, it's called 'Margaret Thatcher Dead'. Whether it's political or simply social, continues to be to be debated. Ms Blythe, of South London, has actually been rallying fellow militants to celebrate her brand-new movement, Margaret Thatcher Dead.

She has set up a Facebook group, calling it 'The Witch is Dead', a subsidiary group of Margaret Thatcher Dead. This group already has over 5,000 members and calls for "demonstrations of disapproval" across the country. I am not sure what she means. Is she asking us to disapprove of Margaret Thatcher slipping out of her mortal coil, all too easily, and without a hint of hard labour?

Ms Blythe is on the ball. She has listed the joyous riots that took place in Bristol and Glasgow on Facebook.

The University of East London graduate teaches drama and arts and specialises in workshops for the young. She is particularly keen on criminals and explores conflict resolution through drama. I myself know of other ways, but drama is a longstanding favourite where conflict is concerned.

During a"flash party" to mark Lady Thatcher's passing, she gave out the call: "Anyone else like to join us?"

It reminds me of an Irish wake. Very jolly indeed.

But the naive thing is deluded. Her Facebook page reads: "Come and commemorate our liberty and flexibility from tyranny! On the day Maggie stands down, as soon as and for all!".

She says her father was a leftie and her mother was a Thatcherite. She said she is merely celebrating the demise of Thatcher's policies, rather than the mortal being herself. It's a time to reflect, Ms Blythe said, in these more prosperous times.

It's not about nastiness. It's about using that date to consider the past, however unfortunate for some people

Quote: I'm calling for a peaceful demonstration of disapproval and letting the Government know we're not stupid and we haven't been brainwashed by more prosperous times since then

It's all good, because this is a 'group catharsis', for "survivors of the Thatcher years" those suffering from post-thatcher traumatic stress disorder, a recognised disorder.

And in case you were thinking of having a jolly in town on Saturday, be warned. 25 locations across the country, are being organised by Class War, with the help of other organizations such as the All London Anarchist Revolutionary Mob, which is of course "committed to radical action to undermine the state".

Ian Bone, of Class War, said that an effigy of Our Lady Thatcher will sit on the fourth plinth in London's Trafalgar Square, which has been suggested as a site for a possible statue for the former prime minister.

Quote: There's a large papier-mache statue of Thatcher being done that will be toppled. It will be similar to the size of the Saddam Hussein one. We want to celebrate the end of Thatcher.

Scotland Yard has launched an operation to control the protest. Of course this means police officer leave has been canceled, which I am sure Lady Thatcher would approve of.

I wasn't planning to attend, but with all of this drama going on, I may pop Sheeba in her blue cat box and saunter over to Trafalgar Square to witness proceedings.

Naturally, Thatcher is not dead yet, not while she's getting all this promotion. She relished promotion, old Thatch, and the last time I looked, the Tories were still half-running the nation.

Ah well.

Tips On Performing Organizational Assessment

By Alyssa Riggs

If there is one thing that every firm should always remember, it is that they can never afford to take their employees for granted. Where they are now and how they have been performing as a business so far, they owe it to the people that fill in the seats within the organization. Hence, it is only reasonable that they should spend enough time looking into the state of the entire company. In this case, an organizational assessment is necessary.

There are many factors that come into play when conducting these assessments. Firms need to understand that a deeper understanding of the current state of mind of their staff matters considerably. They have to remember that these are people responsible for their operation. So, taking enough time to look into their current state is essential.

You need to remember that the satisfaction of the people you are employing currently matters. You must understand that without their performance, there is no way the company is where it is now. So, it helps a lot that you will know what are things that makes your employees satisfied and dissatisfied too. Then you can easily pinpoint these issues behind and address them.

Preparation is essential. You cannot just go ahead and randomly start conducting these assessments when you have not even carried put the necessary preparation you are supposed to go through. Find the necessary time to take a look into all the things that you are supposed to perform. With this, you are confident that these surveys are indeed going to yield you the results you want.

Have an idea of the specific reasons that compelled you to get this survey carried out. It matters that you are well aware of the specific goals that you are trying to aim for as far as these assessments are concerned. Besides, you want to make the most from this chance. So, knowing what your goals are would help make it easier for you to come up with the right planes to get everything done right.

Be sure to prepare the questions that you are supposed to be asking the people you will be interviewing later on too. You cannot just throw in random inquiries when talking to these people. Rather, you want to make sure that these questions cover everything that you need to cover as far as this evaluation is concerned. Also, make sure to ask open ended ones

Understand what are the things that your staff currently view as those that cause them to feel most motivated and satisfied to carry out the functions that they're supposed to carry out. It helps a lot that you are well aware about what these functions are. Then you can trust that you will be able to secure the assistance of the right people.

Consider what are the things that cause your employees to feel dissatisfied too. You need to ensure that you determine these things ahead of time through organizational assessment. Then you can trust that you would be able to get the most out of the evaluations you are carrying out and determine ahead of time what are the things that would help make your employees more satisfied with their functions.

Iron Lady Prime Minister Receives A Salute At St Paul's.

By Olive Onion

La dame de fer(the iron lady) has departed with her coat buttoned and her dignity intact, as my mother might have said.

A few days ago, on the streets around Trafalgar Square, it was an entirely other matter.

The antagonism the Iron Lady Prime Minister provoked was amazing.

Glenda Jackson spewed venom in the house of commons, mob demonstrations took place on London streets, anger not displayed since the poll tax days.

Unbridled hatred from men and women of all rungs along the rickety social ladder, united by intense, and longstanding grudges against MT.

Bile from all classes, and the usual outpourings from the usual gentlemen with the rotten teeth, a scene Dickens would have relished.

With 4000 police and cameras watching every step, the protesters had no luck at the parade. As the coffin made its way along the route, shouts and boos were drowned with applause.

The Iron Lady Prime Minister was not some kind of she-devil.

Her limitations and prejudices were on show, yes, indeed they were; never hidden, and to her credit, she never flinched from criticism. Her ambition was obvious; Margaret Thatcher owned up to and expressed her ideas to the hilt; she was often unbearable.

She was a decisive, if at times, misguided and obstinate leader. My ancestors in Ireland may spin in their graves, I'm supposed to dislike her yet I admire her great spirit. Perhaps Margaret didn't spare much of a thought for those who stumbled outside of her ideology; people such asthe Irish, or those whom she regarded as 'terrorists',people like Nelson Mandela (and maybe also the Scots, was the Baroness of Kilmarnock at St Pauls I wonder?).

This is the common legend, and we base our hatred on her 'cruel and callous' personality.

But how much of this anti-Thatcherism is rhetoric, stemming from an equally vicious left wing, a branch of seething 'socialism', stripped of its innate power and dignity, reduced to mere rabble rousing hatred of individuality, untenable as that individuality may appear in their eyes. Did Margaret Thatcher do this?

Or was socialism already in decline by the time she put the final nail in the lid of its coffin.

In Brighton, her stance against the bombers was brave, foolhardy, and politically brilliant. I believe she was right in facing down the IRA, and who cannot admire such a show of strength against the extortionists of fear.

Her political reign was filled with conflict and social change. Yet, when the dust settles we may remember her differently, or not.

If nothing else, great leaders, powerful leaders ought to be examined. We should probe their hearts, and their minds, try to understand their characters, observe their greatnesses and their flaws; learn from them in a balanced, detached, and yes, scientific way, as cold as that seems.

Adopting political hate slogans is not the answer; it's a strategy of the hopeless. Why not acknowledge the artfulness of a distinctive mind. Whatever else she was, Margaret Thatcher was one of the most remarkable people on the planet, at least during the latter half of the 20th Century.

That may be her legend.

The Good Thing About Non-Partisan Information

By Tamika Quinn

There are many reasons why people would often feel that election is the time of making very tough decisions. Somehow, the problem that many people feel is that they are presented with very little knowledge of who the people running for offices are. It can never really help that very little non-partisan political information are available for them. Such will not suffice to make good decisions.

When it is election season, there are many people who get concerned about many good things. The deal is that people will cast their votes for a day but they will have to put up with the results for several years. One thing that many people should do is to think of ways to get to know the candidates. There are groups that devote their time to helping the public with such things.

A good matter to consider is that there are candidates who will take the political arena as a place to throw stones at their opponents. There are many of them who will say all the nastiest negative things about the other. The result of this is that the public will be swayed to vote on some arguments that have nothing to do with policies and administration. The sad thing, these get more media coverage.

The most important thing that non-partisan data can give people is the unbiased presentation of facts. Most people magnify the little data and make things complicated for the public. The half truth and big lie is a commonly used argument that actually should fall on deaf ears. When the data are presented well, everyone gets a good view of things therefore helping them cast informed choices.

Individuals are craving for unbiased stories and details and there are times when the media fails on this aspect. It is noticeable that there are channels or personalities who are affiliated with some parties. The result is that they can present stories that are not really true or just plain magnified.

The parties would also arrange for meetings with the public. This is the time when they would be presenting themselves and ask the public for their support. It is very tricky as people could be swayed by sweet words. But then again, they should know that platforms are still the best basis for the vote.

There are groups that dedicate time setting up websites to help the public in choosing the right people. There are less biases in these websites if these are run by groups with little interest in partisan politics. It pays to check these sites as most of the things written are accurate.

There are books about politics and how politicians present themselves and these can help inform the voters. Reading these books actually help the public analyze the parties evolution as well as their members through the years. These should help everyone get a better view of the affiliations and how the core values of the group has evolved through time.

It is good to note that the non-partisan political information are available for many people. There will always be reasons for people not to be worried about the options that they have. At the end of the day, these things could guide them the moment that they write names of politicians in the ballot.

The Main Reasons Joining Unions Help

By Camille Nicholson

Most people dream of working in a good place without a worry about what will happen the next day. It has always been the concern of many people to plan their future and work to make life stable. But this is not a very simple thing to do so workers decide to become members of unions Australia.

For many people it is not just enough that they land a job, they must see to it that they can hold on until they can retire. For most people, life is about working until they become stable enough. It is ideal however to have a group to help in this situation. This should be a pact where people would look after the back of everyone and make sure they work in the best place possible.

The most important reason for some people is that they will be entitled to get better pay if they are members of labor groups. The prime concern of people is that they will get good pay. Members get to enjoy such as the group could assert it. Anti-labor groups may claim it is a waste but definitely it is not. What is good is that there are members who can enjoy the higher pay more.

The members could feel that they are going to have more benefits as well. They may have sick pay, paid vacations, pension and other perks in their work life. This always depends on what the company and the group agrees upon. Most of the time, everyone would have the most favorable benefits. The companies simply make it a point that the rights and respected.

Those working as members of these groups are automatically able to push for safer work environments. Most of the employees who are not members have to live with what is the company is offering them. But group members can push and assert their rights which companies honor.

Group members can walk with great pride. The members have more sense of themselves and they are able to achieve more as well. It goes without saying that there are many things that they can push for the benefit of everyone. Other employees are not able to voice their concerns. The groups would however make it a point that these things are really pushed.

Members can also enjoy security of tenure. If they are simply doing their jobs and are helping the company to achieve greater heights, then they are safe in their posts. No one will be able to take them down their posts without merits.

Everyone should be discouraged from thinking that activism will simply kick them off their jobs. The thing is, if they are looking after the security of everyone, there is nothing to be scared about. The company and the representatives could discuss the issues and find ways to resolve them.

Being members of unions Australia is also considered a good thing because most people believe that they are more competent. The companies would definitely give the better pay and more privileges when they are sure that the people who will work for them are well worth it.

Obama may invoke exec. order in gun control push

By Cornelius Nunev

The right to own a gun has become one of the most heated discussions in the country, polarizing customers from coast to coast. Gun sales are rising in an already thriving market as aficionados stock up, fearing what may come. The White House is considering 19 separate firearm control measures that could possibly be passed by executive order. In the meantime, it is meeting rigid opposition from firearm supports and from the Countrywide Rifle Association, which may or may not have close ties to the $12 billion-a-year guns market.

Looking into gun control

With 10,037,110 background checks done in order to sell guns in 2011, there are still millions of people who bought guns without background checks. When there are private sales and gun shows, background checks are unnecessary. According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Firearm Violence, background checks never occur in about 40 percent of gun sales.

The 19 actions President Obama is considering could include imposing stiffer penalties for those who lie on background checks or who traffic in guns, limiting the import of guns from overseas, and greater sharing and scrutiny of the mental health records of would-be firearm buyers.

Congress will not let him get rid of assault weapons and high-capacity clips like he wants.

Not a ton of followers

If Obama takes an executive order on any of the actions, Rep. Steve Stockman from Texas promised to impeach him. There are a lot of people who promise civil war if the administration takes the weapons. On top of that, many other gun supporters are really against a push from the administration.

Stockman said that the move would be unconstitutional, adding that he "will seek to thwart this action in any way necessary."

NRA control in Congress

The Newton mass shooting tragedy is what brought on all the interest in guns. The Countrywide Rifle Association claims that it is a better idea to put armed guards in schools and look more closely at video game violence before saying goodbye to guns. It is one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington D.C., and it has a ton of influence. It opposes the efforts.

The Huffington post explained that the NRA has no ties to the gun sector and is simply there to shield second amendment rights. The NRA's interest has always favored the gun market over its rank-and-file contributing members.

Dreier said: "The NRA is ... primarily a corporate lobby group working on behalf of the gun and ammo manufacturers, similar to the trade associations that represent car manufacturers ... and other industries. All of them claim to do what's best for the consumers of their products ... but everyone knows that they primarily serve the interests of the corporations who fund and govern them."

Electoral Votes: Larry Shultz

By Larry Shultz

US Nation - Larry Shultz

A good way to win the US presidential election is learning how the system works. We both know that the USA president is elected through votes. But how are the votes counted? They are counted through the electoral college votes in the US president elect.

When a presidential candidate gets past their primary campaign to win the nomination for their party, they then make it on to the campaigning for the actual presidency. Campaigning, though, is geared toward winning the votes from the Electoral College instead of winning the overall majority votes.

This system is something that creates a lot of controversy for a lot of people. Those in opposition have issues with the fact that a president can win the election without winning the popular vote, even though most presidents, including the current President Barack Obama, have in fact won the popular vote.

A presidential candidate campaigns to win the popular vote within a particular state. When the votes are cast, each state counts votes on its own. When the votes for a particular state are counted, the electoral votes for that state are all given to the candidate that wins the popular vote in that state.

In the United States the president is elected using the votes through the Electoral college. Lastly, the president will then be made the official US president. The Electoral College and the system that is in progress for the presidential election may attract a lot of attention because of its flaws, but the system is in place and has worked efficiently thus far. The president is not elected directly because of majority vote, but by a portion of 538 Electoral Votes given from each particular state as the president wins the votes in the state.

Iraq War 2003 Ten Years Later: A Time For Reflection

By Charles Edmund Coyote

The Iraq war of 2003 was the worst foreign policy blunder in the American history. But we can learn from the strategic mistakes of George W. Bush's administration and hopefully avoid making such monumental errors in the future.

The cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars appears to be headed toward about $4-$5 trillion in total expenditures once all is said and done, if we include to the $1.41 trillion spent to date the equivalent interest payments on the massive amounts borrowed and supplemented to the deficit by the Bush administration, and the 50-60 years of Afghan/Iraq's 2.8 million veterans reaching a projected 40% permanent disability levels.

This is slightly higher than the cost range for World War II and a very far cry from the $4-$5 billion incurred by the Afghan field operations in Oct-Dec 2001. If the Bush administration had not passed on the opportunities presented to eliminate Mullah Omar, Osama bin Laden, and Ayman al-Zawahiri just a few months after September 11, the war would had been brought to swift conclusion with the decimation of al-Qaeda.

This fact becomes more inexcusable considering the little cost of ordering commercial airline cockpit doors to be locked in flight, which would cost much less than ordering private jet flights for a select few cabinet officials because of the 'enhanced threat assessment involving airplanes' the summer of 2001. Instead, the Bush administration chose to ignore the multiple of warnings that came from Counter-terrorist Departments, CIA, FBI and the intelligence of other countries. Yet, select government officials would fly with only private jets!

Such a little step of applying commercial airline cockpit doors - appropriate in light of the circumstances - would have saved the lives of the nearly 3,000 killed in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. A serious investigation into the tragedy was prevented by the terms of the Bush administration's Victim's Compensation Fund, which used US taxpayer money to pay an average of $1.8 million to each of the 9/11 victim families willing to sign an agreement not to sue, and thus force disclosure of the extensive negligence and security breaches that led to the tragic 9/11 events.

What did the choices made by the Bush administration after the 9/11 attacks achieve? The Taliban returned to Afghanistan, and Osama bin Laden was given not only one war - he had been seeking with America since 1996 in order to drain its economy - but two of them!

What was the result of all this over-the-top spending? It took 10 years and a Democratic administration to take care of bin Laden after the Bush administration blew the opportunity in Tora-Bora in December 2001. Iraq still has a strongman government; only now the current version is Shia instead of Sunni, and they are developing an alliance with Iran. Most of their oil is now sold to China instead.

All these non-accomplishments in both wars came at the price of nearly 7,000 US Service Personnel dead. In Iraq, there were somewhere between 120,000 to 1,000,000 dead and more than 3 million newly minted orphans since 2003.

As the Vice-President of Iraq asked, rhetorically, in the opening days of the Iraq war, 'What is George Bush trying to do, create an entire generation of terrorists?'

Some still want believe that George W. Bush 'kept us safe'.

What planet have these seceded to - Delusionus?

As a result of the Iraq war 2003-2011 and its mismanagement, many benefited and got rich during the Bush administration years.

As Dr. Andrew Krepinevich of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments noted on our 'War on Terror', "Being on the wrong side of cost imposition is not a characteristic of strategic competence". Staying on the wrong side has even higher costs. The Iraq War 2003 has been a clear demonstration of much that is wrong with the neo-conservative foreign policy.

If we fail to learn from such mistakes, it is likely our $1.2 trillion/year military will become increasingly vulnerable to the asymmetric defenses of hegemons. China, our nearest military competitor with a $140 billion/year defense budget, chooses to put most of its money into developing its economy, and plans to deal with our aggressive $6 billion super carriers using relatively inexpensive anti-ship ballistic missiles.

Combining this position with our increasingly hollowed out economy - 'free trade' they call it, having no historical memory that the same thing doomed the British Empire a hundred years ago - and the replay of another Iraq-type Middle-Eastern scenario (as Lt. Gen. Paul Van Riper demonstrated during Operation Millennium Challenge) is the sort of thing that brings down a great power.

Can the Iraq War teach us anything so we can prevent similar blunders from happening again?
