The Merits Of African Wildlife Conservation

By Kenneth Hill

The loss of species and habitats every year has speared the emergence of many conservation movements and organizations in Africa. Habitats are being destructed to pave the way for construction and other development projects. This has led to pollution increase and loss of biodiversity. African Wildlife Conservation has created awareness for sustainable developments. Wild animals, as well as plants protection, have a number of merits as discussed in this article.

Wildlife is one of the critical attraction sites in Africa. Many people travel from places to come and see creatures that are hard to see anywhere else. Unfortunately, poaching and poor resource utilization have led to the extinction of these wonders of the world. Protecting them ensures that tourists will keep coming throughout the year. A significant amount of revenue is collected from tourism and used for other developmental purposes.

Protected areas act as recreation sites. Various outdoor activities directly depend on interacting with both wild flora and fauna. Such activities include bird watching, camping, hunting, and fishing. These activities help individuals to relax, exercise and to live a healthy life. Protecting the environment and its creatures does not only give the current generation a chance to enjoy recreational activities but also the future generation.

Protection helps to preserve species that are facing extinction. A range of wild resources including animals that were in abundant in the past are now extinct. Some more are now threatened due to poor resource utilization. Protecting the few that currently exist helps them to reproduce and to be present for future generation. A single species can interact with the others in a number of ways, including food webs and habitat. Protecting a single species helps the others to survive.

Promoting the wildlife conservation helps in securing future food supply. Having crop diversity means less vulnerable to diseases that can cause extinctions. Individual plants suffer various diseases, causing an entire field of a single plant to be damaged. Having a variety of plants ensures that others survive when one is wiped out.

Wildlife offers research and educational opportunities to a lot of learners and scientists. There are still many undiscovered animals and plants in the wild. Researchers take much of their time finding medicinal purposes of various indigenous plants and animals. Maintaining the ecosystems gives them a chance of discovering more. Studying wild animals, their habitats and interaction with the environment can be a valuable experience for many learners.

Wildlife conservation creates aesthetic value while offering the psychological merits. Various outdoor activities such as nature walk and hiking on weekends or holidays can help you to relax and reduce the everyday work stress. This improves your moods and confidence as you interact with the preserved fauna and flora. Having these outdoor activities can impact positively on your know knowledge as you will be learning new things every time.

Wildlife can act as environmental indicators. Various animals migrate from one location to another in search of water and pasture, indicating the likelihood of drought. Some may even indicate chemical toxicity in certain regions and the level of pollution. Species such as plants play a significant role in reducing pollution, erosion and attracting rainfall. Trees are carbon sink and help to reduce ozone depletion by decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
