The Flag Company Inc And Panamanian Flag

By Kevin James

The current Panamanian flag was adopted on December 20, 1903, and provisionally approved in 1904 by the Constituent Assembly. It was not definitely approved until 1925. Panama was a colony of Spain from the 16th century until 1821, when independence was achieved. After independence from Spain, Panama joined Colombia as one of its provinces.

The flag of Panama has four quarters that acknowledges the present political situation of the country. If the blue for other flags means sea, sky, and royalty, the color blue at the left bottom of PanamaĆ¢€™s flag symbolizes the conservative party whilst the color red at the top right represents the liberal party.

Officially adopted in 1925, after Panama gained independence from Colombia, the flag of Panama was designed many years before. Maria Ossa de Amador created the first flag of Panama in 1903 from designs created by her son, Manuel Amador Guerrero.

It is indeed exciting to discover that there is a woman named Maria Ossa de Amador who finished the 3 flags before the independence day of Panama from Columbia. The tale behind this flag as it was made secretly on November 1, 1903, was safely kept from the Columbian government.

The flag of Panama is divided into four quadrants. The upper left (hoist side) quadrant is white with a blue five-pointed star, and the quadrant below it is solid blue. On the right, the upper quadrant is solid red, and the lower one has a red five-pointed star. The blue and red represent the two major political parties in Panama, the Conservative, and Liberal Parties, while the white symbolizes peace. The blue star symbolizes purity, and the red star symbolizes the new law of the country.

There is a barrage of cheap and inferior Panama flags being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons. Imported flags are cheaply made and more importantly, the designs, materials, colors, and methods of printing do not compare well with the better quality, longer-lasting, and correctly designed flags. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flag designs offered a special edition of decals and flags to memorize the history of Panamanian flag for the future.
