The Life Story Of Dario Broccolino

By Ina Hunt

During the year 2007, the resignation of the Howard County attorney led to the need for a replacement. This post, therefore, had to be taken up by Dario Broccolino as an interim replacement. A few years later, he was formally elected and hence allowed to take the job on permanent terms. The period he served as the interim attorney, therefore, paved way for his election. He had entered the office of the state attorney in 1999, and worked within the capacity of a deputy attorney.

Before he became an attorney, he had been a coordinator and Executive Director at the association of attorneys for eleven years; from 1988 all the way to 1999. He then served in Baltimore as an assistant state attorney. At this point in time, he worked with four elected attorneys. While in Baltimore, his job description included prosecuting on economy related crimes, drugs and arson.

He was born and brought up in the city of Baltimore. He went to Loyola College located in Maryland, where he got his first degree in 1967. Later, he joined the University of Baltimore and got his J. D degree and years later an advanced law degree with a bias in taxation. Before becoming a lawyer, he had taught social studies at Kenwood and Dulaney High Schools, all are found in Baltimore. For the few years that followed, he worked on the adjunct faculty in Maryland Law School.

Dario has been in several leadership positions in a number of professions. He, for instance, is the former president of the association of state attorneys. The governor of the state appointed him to the board of victim services medical marijuana in 2013. The same governor had earlier appointed him to the cease fire council of Maryland. This is a commission whose main objectives are minimizing misuse of firearms and violence.

During the 2000-2008 period, Dario was picked by the the state governor to join the Maryland Handgun board. The governor who succeeded the previous one had no option but to re-appoint him into the same board up to 2008. At the moment, he is privileged to be one of the members of the Association Bar employees of Maryland and James Macgil Court. He is also among the members Howard Bar Foundation.

This man has been a resident of Howard County since 1975. He is still a resident up to today. Currently, he sits as the president of the Elliot City fire Department that is made up f volunteers. In years that have passed, he has served as the treasurer at St. John Association. He seems a very busy man. He has an uncountable number of leadership positions, and all of them demand his attention.

Besides work related leadership, he also participates in sporting activities, especially those for youths. He has previously worked in capacities of coach, official and even administrator in sports for nearly twenty six years. This can be a very difficult affair for most people whose responsibilities are as overwhelming as those that Dario has. It has not been easy for him to mange all these; they might have caused him a lot of trouble trying to strike a balance.

He has been a married man for over thirty nine years. His wife Donna Broccolino died some years back, but the rest of his family still lives in Howard County. They had two children, both of whom are married, and four grandchildren. He is a very dedicated family man as may be seen from the way he takes care of his beloved family.
